Virginia Beach offers many attractions for the visitor during the day and night. The Royal Clipper is just minutes away from these attractions. We have compiled what we believe to be the most interesting list of places to go and things to see for our motel guests. Virginia Beach Pavillion -
Virginia Beach's Convention Center - 1000 19th Street (757)
428-8000. The Pavilion Convention Center, a fantastic vaulted
structure, hosts everything from small meetings and craft shows
to major trade shows.
Virginia Center for
Contemporary Art - 2200 Parks Ave.
(757) 425-0000. Dedicated in 1989, this modern facility proudly
showcases all types of fine art with a focus of presenting 20th
century art in its many forms and expressions.
Tidewater Veterans Memorial - 19th Street across from the Pavilion. This modern
sculpture/waterfall, created from stone and water, is a tribute
to the contributions of the area's military forces and symbolizes
the elements of war that unify and divide us.
Tiki Tai Naval Museum - 14th Street & Atlantic Ave. (757) 491-2502. Come
see all aspects of naval history from cannon balls of the
American Revolution to SCUD missile fragments. From Navy diving
exploration to deep space exploration. School groups welcome.
Rudee Inlet and Marina - Winston-Salem Ave. near Pacific Ave. This gateway to
the sea is the perfect departure point for a full day of
sportfishing, or a two hour boat tour of Virginia Beach and the
Chesapeake Bay.
The Old Coast Guard Station - 24th Street and Atlantic Avenue (757) 422-1587 An
actual Life-Saving/Coast Guard Station built in 1903, this museum
vividly depicts its history as well as the many shipwrecks of the
coast of Virginia Beach.
Norwegian Lady Statue - 25th Street and Atlantic Avenue. A gift to Virginia
Beach from Moss, Norway, this bronze figurehead gazes out to sea,
commemorating the tragic wreck of the Norwegian bark, "Dictator."
Association for Research and
Enlightenment - 67th Street and
Atlantic Avenue (757) 428-3588. This library and conference
center is the intenational headquarters for the work of the
best-documented psychic of modern times, Edgar Cayce.
Historic Cape Henry - At the Northern end of Atlantic Avenue on Fort Story
(757) 460-1688. The First Landing Cross marks where the Jamestown
colonists first touched the shore of the new world in 1607. Built
in 1791, Old Cape Henry Lighthouse is the oldest government-built
lighthouse in America.
Seashore State Park - 2500 Shore Drive (757) 481-2131. This park is a
beautiful, Spanish moss-draped, 2,700-acre atural area with 27
miles of hiking trails, picnic area and camping.
Upper Wolfsnare - 2040 Potters Road (757) 491-3490. Built in 1759 by
Thomas Walke III, a prominent gentryman and ratifier of the U.S.
Constitution, this brick Georgian-style house holds the memories
of family life in the latter half of the 18th century.
Adam Thoroughgood House - 1636 Parrish Road (757) 460-0007. This 17th-century
modified hall and parlor house with charming English cottage
architecture has historic herb and flower gardens.
Lynnhaven House - 4405 Wishart Road (757) 460-1688. Built in 1725, this
is among the very best preserved 18th-century buildings in the
U.S.
Francis Land House - 3131 Virginia Beach Boulevard (757) 431-4000. The
Francis Land House Historic Site and Gardens is a seven acre site
that features a 200 year old plantation home, beautiful gardens,
flowers and trees, and a wooded area. It is conveniently located
along a major thoroughfare and near many restuarants and shopping
opportunities.
The Virginia Marine Science
Museum - 717 General Booth Boulevard
(757) 425-FISH. The state's most visited museum features over
700,000 gallons of aquaria, 60 hands-on exibits and a 1/3 mile
outdoor boardwalk. It explores marine life from Virginia's
coastal plain river to the deep ocean. Visit our new IMAX 3D
Theater and the Owl's Creek Salt Marsh Pavilion.
Oceana Jet-Landing
Observation Points - Oceana Boulevard
or London Bridge Road (757) 433-3131. Watch the Navy's most
sophisticated aircraft land and take off. Oceana is one of the U.
S. Navy's four master jet bases and has 22 aviation squadrons. It
is home base to the U.S. Navy's F-14 Tomcat fighter planes.
Seasonal tours of the Air Station are available.
Ocean Breeze Amusement Park - 849 General Booth Blvd. (757) 422-4444. Ocean Breeze
Amusement Park offers a total range of rides, fun, and
attractions unlike any other theme park in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach Fishing Pier - 15th Street and Oceanfront (757) 428-2333. The
Virginia Beach Fishing Pier located at the end of 15th Street is
a great place to try your luck (and skill) at catching a wide
variety of game fish and Blue Crabs. Open daily, in season.
Lynnhaven Fishing Pier - 2350 Starfish Road (757) 481-7071. The Lynhaven
Fishing Pier is located near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel,
and offers a beautiful view of the sunset over the bay in
addition to great fishing.
Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel - Route 13, Virginia Beach to Eastern Shore (757)
624-3511. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel connecting the Eastern
Shore to Virginia Beach allows you to see the mighty surge of the
Atlantic Ocean, the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, and the soaring
grace of an engineering marvel.
Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage
Museum - 1113 Atlantic Ave. (757)
437-8432. Located in the heart of the resort area, this museum
contains many artifacts and decoys. Exhibits trace the craft of
decoy making from the earliest Native American efforts to award
winning works in wood.
